Manchester City are reportedly set to sign Velez Sarsfield talent Maximo Perrone, beating English rivals Newcastle United to the youngster in a deal worth $8m (£6.6m).
According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, a verbal agreement has been reached with the final details of the deal being ironed out as City add to their growing roster of promising South American talents, with Perrone joining the likes of Julian Alvarez and Kayky.

The deal will be viewed many as quite the coup for City, with Perrone regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters in Argentina and a player chased by many top European clubs, including Eddie Howe’s PIF-backed Newcastle.
Diario Popular reported that the Magpies were ready to table as much as £12m to sign Perrone. However, Newcastle have seemingly failed in their attempts to bring the Velez wonder to St. James Park, with City landing the 19-year-old in their first deal of the January transfer window.
Indeed, Perrone joining City could be an exceptional move for Pep Guardiola’s side if the defensive midfielder develops as well as many experts tip the teenager to do so in Manchester. And for Newcastle, missing out on yet another promising talent will be a blow for the Toon.

City have been quite impressive in recent years in using their resources to land some of football’s most exciting talents, with South America proving to be quite the market for the Manchester giants, with Perrone the latest name set to take their abilities and potential to the Etihad Stadium, much to the dismay of Newcastle.
After all, the Magpies have once again missed out on an exciting talent having already coming up short for the likes of Hugo Ekitike and soon Andrey Santos. And adding Perrone to the list will only infuriate Newcastle, who are yet to crack the formula for signing young players.
