Manchester City are in the market for a new striker this summer – and they could make a move for Southampton striker Danny Ings.

Sergio Aguero’s contract ends this summer, and it currently doesn’t look like the Argentinian will be staying beyond the close of the campaign.

The Athletic now report that City are indeed considering striker signings for this summer, with Ings believed to be one of their targets.

Ings is reluctant to sign a new Southampton deal as things stand, because he wants to play for a Champions League club in the near future.

City can offer that, but with Ings approaching 29, picking him as Aguero’s long-term successor could be something of a gamble.

Signing Ings would give him another shot at European action though, having seen his dream with Liverpool come to an end in 2018, following three injury-hit years at Anfield.

He could now become Pep Guardiola’s new striking threat going forward, so Liverpool would become Ings title’ rivals in the process given the burgeoning rivalry between the two clubs.

Jurgen Klopp let Ings go, but what does he think of him? Well, after completing the move to Southampton, Klopp called Ings ‘outstanding’ on Liverpool’s official website.

Klopp has always spoke highly of Ings, adding last year that he thinks Ings scores ‘exceptional’ goals whilst noting that the striker still feels like a Liverpool player, even if he isn’t.

Well, Ings could very soon line up against Liverpool for their new rivals, and Klopp would surely rather he went elsewhere this summer.
