Manchester City are reportedly preparing to offer Erling Haaland a new contract after a £150m exit clause from the 22-year-old’s current deal was removed.

According to the Athletic, the reigning Premier League champions are ready to hand the Norwegian striker a new contract after a £150m clause linked to if Pep Guardiola would stay at the club was removed after the Catalan coach penned a three-year deal with City in November.

As a result, City are now working on awarding Haaland fresh terms after a record-breaking debut year in England that has seen the former Borussia Dortmund striker score an incredible 47 goals in all competitions, with the Premier League single-season scoring record well within his sights.

Moreover, as per the report, Haaland is very happy at City and is delighted that a number of promises made by the Manchester giants during negotiations to sign him last spring from the Bundesliga have been kept, with the attacker in the form of his life.

Indeed, Haaland’s antics are set to break numerous records previously thought as untouchable in the English game, and with City’s system catering more and more towards the 22-year-old, there is no telling just how good the striker can get in the years to come.

As a result, City could well now dominate the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League for many seasons should Haaland sign a new deal with the Etihad Stadium side, a decision that could also effect the likes of Real Madrid and their future transfer plans for the forward.

City’s dominance in the Premier League has been stark, yet the Manchester side are yet to establish themselves as a sporting dynasty like Manchester United did in the 1990s and periods of the 2000s. Yet Haaland signing a new contract could open the door to such a reality.

The Scandinavian forward is arguably the best striker in world football and is finding new ways to break records and to lead City to new heights, and penning a new deal could lead Guardiola’s side into an era of dominance the likes of which we haven’t seen in the Premier League for decades.
