Report: Man City deem £42m Real Madrid ace Newcastle reportedly bid for as ‘transfer priority’

SPORT have reported that Man City are now ‘attentive’ about the contractual situation of Newcastle United-linked defender Ferland Mendy.

At the end of December, Foot Mercato had claimed that Newcastle had put in a bid to sign Mendy from Real Madrid.

The report stated that Eddie Howe was keen on signing the French left-back, as he aimed to ensure the club keep their place in the Champions League spots.

It was stated by Foot Mercato that PSG were also interested in signing Ferland Mendy, alongside Newcastle United.

Clearly, Man City are in desperate need of a left-back, much like in the case of Newcastle.

Apart from Joao Cancelo, the club lack a natural left-back such as Ferland Mendy within their ranks.

Sergio Gomez is clearly a project signing, as he is naturally an attacking midfielder, while he operates on the right wing for the Spain U-21 side.

While Pep Guardiola’s side took the callous decision of selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal without signing a replacement.

As a result, it makes complete sense why Man City have entered the race to sign Newcastle-linked ace Mendy.

It has been reported that Los Blancos seemingly have no strong desire to hand Mendy a brand-new deal, as his current contract runs out in 2025.

Furthermore, the champions of Europe are also open to let Ferland Mendy depart, with Man City and Newcastle reportedly interested as their dream signing is Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.
