German side VfL Wolfsburg have not hidden their delight as the Bundesliga club have warded off interest from Manchester City for one promising player.

Manchester City have been the quietest of the Premier League’s big six as they have yet to make a significant first team signing.

Lucas Paqueta was understood to be one key target for City in this summer’s transfer window but because of the Brazilian’s alleged breach of betting rules, the Citizens have pivoted away from the West Ham United midfielder.

Another target for Pep Guardiola’s team was Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes and there was some concern from those at the club that City could trigger the £100 million release clause in his contract, but those fears have not yet come to pass.

German side celebrate as City miss out on teenager

One player who City have been linked with since he made a name for himself at German side Wolfsburg is Dzenan Pejcinovic.

Pejcinovic joined Wolfsburg from FC Augsburg back in 2022 but has only made four appearances in the Bundesliga but it appears he was attracting attention from the Premier League champions.

Kicker had previously claimed that CIty were prepared to pay a fee in the millions to land the striker, which goes to show how highly rated the teenager is.

However, it is Wolfsburg who are celebrating as the talented 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a new long term deal at the Bundesliga club.

“It’s not for nothing that Dzenan has aroused the interest of top international clubs,” VfL sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz told Obermain Tagblatt.

“We are therefore all the more pleased that we will continue to pursue this journey together in the long term.”

City miss out on another target

As mentioned, despite only playing four games, City were ready to lay down a considerable outlay to land the German forward.

The 19-year-old striker enjoyed a stunning 2023/24 campaign at youth level for Die Wölfe, scoring 31 goals in just 21 appearances across all competitions for the U19s.

However, the Premier League champions have missed out on the teenage sensation as their frustrating summer transfer window continues.
