Manchester City are now keen to agree to a transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers for Matheus Nunes to ‘get the jump’ on Liverpool with the Reds eying the Wolves star.
That is according to Dean Jones, who reports that Liverpool and Manchester City are both in the mix for Nunes’ transfer from Wolves. But Molineux chiefs are determined to retain their 24-year-old maestro. So, they are highly unlikely to accept any offers worth less than £60m.
Manchester City have begun to explore the possibility of prising Nunes away from Wolves in advance of next Friday’s deadline. Pep Guardiola feels the 11-cap Portugal maestro can help to strengthen his team’s creativity. While Liverpool’s interest is also influencing their pursuit.

Manchester City want to ‘get the jump’ on Liverpool for Matheus Nunes’ transfer
Liverpool are known admirers of Nunes but are currently only considering any transfer from Wolves for a future window. Jurgen Klopp does not believe the Reds must secure his arrival at Anfield this summer. Yet their stance has tempted the Etihad Stadium outfit to move now.
Not having direct competition from Liverpool has convinced Manchester City to try and ‘get the jump’ on their Premier League rivals by securing Nunes’ transfer from Wolves now. They do not want to bide their time and allow Klopp and the Reds to respond in a future window.

Wolves have now rejected the Citizens’ opening offer for Matheus Nunes’ move
Discussions remain ongoing between Manchester City and Wolves after the Molineux outfit rejected an opening offer for Nunes’ transfer. Sky Sports reports that the Citizens remain in talks despite failing with a £47m bid. Wolves signed Nunes for £38m, plus £4m in add-ons.
Nunes moved to Molineux from Sporting Lisbon last August and agreed a five-year contract. But the midfielder, who his former coach Ruben Franco praises for having a ‘special gift’ to see the free space with his ‘high intensity’, has since only scored once through 41 matches.

The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil-born playmaker has also only offered one assist with the Old Gold. But Nunes can add a creative presence from throughout the engine room, having played as a wide and a central midfielder. He has turned out on either flank already this season, as well.
