A number of Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that highly rated academy midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru has joined Watford following his departure from the Etihad Stadium.

The Nigeria Under-20 international has signed a six-year contract at Vicarage Road and, according to the Hornets’ official statement, has already been earmarked to link up with Javi Gracia’s first team.

Dele-Bashiru came through the ranks at Man City made his senior debut for Pep Guardiola’s side in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Leicester City in 2017-18, coming on for Phil Foden in the 91st minute.

Although he featured plentifully in the UEFA Youth League, Premier League 2, FA Youth Cup and the Checkatrade Trophy, the Leicester game was to be his only Citizens first-team appearance (Transfermarkt).

Much like Jadon Sancho and Brahim Diaz before him, Dele-Bashiru did not sign a new deal at the Etihad and has now gone elsewhere, though he could well come up against his former employers in the coming season as he’s opted to remain in the Premier League.

Here is what some Man City fans said on social media about the move:

Dele-Bashiru was part of Nigeria Under-20 team at the 2019 U20 World Cup in Poland and he scored a goal in three games before the Super Eagles’ exit in the knockout round.
