Manchester City demolished Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, picking up a 4-1 win at Anfield.

City hadn’t won a Premier League game at Anfield since 2003, and it looked like their torrid luck would continue when Ilkay Gundogan fired a first-half penalty over the bar.

However, Gunodgan scored from close range, and even though Mohamed Salah hauled Liverpool level from the spot, Gundogan put City back in front.

Raheem Sterling then headed in a third, and Phil Foden’s powerful finish secured a 4-1 win late in the day, wrapping up a thumping win.

City now move 10 points clear of Liverpool in the Premier League table with a game in hand, and look like the clear favourites to win the title now.

This was a big day for City, but especially for Sterling as he showed his former club what they’re missing with a fine performance.

Sterling won the penalty, went on a fine run for Gundogan’s opener and then scored from close range, whilst he was outstanding statistically.

Sterling notched two key passes, five successful dribbles, two interceptions and two tackles won in a superb all-round display.

Fans took to Twitter to hail Sterling’s display, suggesting that he had Trent Alexander-Arnold on toast throughout the game and was better than both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
