Manchester City and England star Raheem Sterling has been recognised at the BT Sport Industry Awards for his work in the fight against racism in football.
The 24-year-old has highlighted media coverage of black players on his social media accounts and called on the game’s authorities to clamp down on racist abuse.
Sterling was presented with the Integrity and Impact Award by Gareth Southgate, his manager at international level, at the ceremony in London on Thursday.
Earlier this week, the Three Lions ace wrote a column for The Times to back a manifesto calling for more to be done in the fight against racism and urging stronger sanctions for those found guilty.
Earlier in April, Sterling was hailed as “an iconic British sports star” and “a trailblazer” after being named Sportsman of the Year at the 2019 British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards.
