Liverpool progressed into the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Manchester City.

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has congratulated Liverpool for their 5-1 aggregate victory on Twitter after Jurgen Klopp’s men knocked City out of the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Pep Guardiola’s men were tasked with turning a 3-0 first-leg deficit on its head at the Etihad, and made the perfect start as Gabriel Jesus finished Raheem Sterling’s clever pass with aplomb.

Leroy Sane then had a goal disallowed by the linesman, with plenty of debate still to be had on whether the German was in an offside position. But it was all Liverpool in the second half.
Mo Salah scored a sublime chip, before Roberto Firmino capitalised on a Nicolas Otamendi mistake to earn a 2-1 win on the night. Crocked defender Mendy, who joined City from Monaco in the summer, applauded Liverpool on Twitter.
Liverpool were heavily linked with a move to sign Mendy in the summer, before the 23-year-old France international joined City as just one of three high-profile full-backs that joined Guardiola’s side along with Kyle Walker and Danilo.
Mendy has managed just five City appearances before he snapped his anterior cruciate ligament against Crystal Palace back in September and it remains to be seen if he will reappear before the end of the season.
