Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has provided an update on the future of manager Pep Guardiola after winning his fourth successive Premier League title.

There had been rumours that Pep Guardiola was ready to leave Manchester City at the end of next season with the Spaniard closing in on ten years at the Etihad Stadium.

Since his move to the club after a spell at Bayern Munich, Guardiola has won all there is to win in England including a famous treble during the 2022/23 season.

With the legal charges that are hanging over City at this moment in time, maybe next summer will be the right time for Guardiola to leave.

City chairman on Guardiola’s future

Speaking to The Independent, the City owner was asked about the future of the Spaniard, who has dominated English football since his arrival back in 2016.

“We have had this conversation many times before, you know that, over the years of the contract,” Al Mubarak said. “Pep has always been fully committed to this club, fully committed to every contract that he has signed with us.

“This decision on his future is always a decision that we will take together, and I have no doubt that we will find, as always, we have done, the right solution that works for Pep and works for us.

“It’s hard to put into words what Pep has given this organisation, this club. You can look at just records, for history’s sake and there I think he’s racked up every record, almost, in the book. And these are records that I think will be very, very hard in the future to ever break.”

City have to keep hold of Guardiola

It may well be pointing out the obvious here but City have to do all they can to hold onto the Spaniard next season as he has been the most important men for the club over the last decade.

Wthout Guardiola’s tactical genius, City do not win that treble and certainly don’t win as many league titles as they have done since his appointment in 2016.

There are some good managers available but City have to ensure they do whatever they can to keep Guardiola at the club.
