Darragh MacAnthony has claimed that Leeds United are going to be back in the Champions League by the year 2025.
Leeds enhanced their reputation once again this past weekend with a stunning 2-1 win away to Premier League champions elect Manchester City.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side had 10 men for exactly half the game but still returned to West Yorkshire with three points.
The Whites have been a breath of fresh air since returning to the Premier League after a 16-year absence last summer.
With seven games to go this season, the Elland Road club are 10th in the table and only behind ninth-placed Arsenal on goal difference.
And MacAnthony, who owns Peterborough United, has claimed to The Hard Truth podcast that he can easily see United finishing in the top four over the coming years.
He said: “I think Leeds, within the next three or four years if not sooner, will be in the Champions League spots. This is a big club. It’s run by some clever people. I really see Leeds on the ascendancy. Next year I would say top six. That club is just building and building. They’ve sold equity to the 49ers, commercially it’ll be a mammoth again.”
Is he right? Leeds fans will hope so, but there’s no value in looking too far forward.
Sheffield United finished ninth in their return to the Premier League last season and yet they’re bottom of the table now and certain to be relegated.
And although nobody is saying the same will happen to Leeds next term, it’s worth bearing in mind that fortunes can change very, very quickly in top-flight football.
