Mamadou Sakho was the best of the back three as Liverpool and Arsenal drew 2-2.
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho stood out as Liverpool drew 2-2 with Arsenal.
While Martin Skrtel scored the dramatic equaliser, he was also partly culpable for the Gunners’ earlier equaliser just before half-time.
Here is a look at how the defenders compared to one another:
| Match | Won Tackles | Interceptions | Aerial Duels Won | Accurate Crosses | Shots Blocked | Assists | Goals | Total | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mamadou Sakho | Liverpool vs Arsenal | 3 | 2 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 9 | 90 |
| Martin Skrtel | Liverpool vs Arsenal | 0 | 1 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 8 | 90 |
| Kolo Touré | Liverpool vs Arsenal | 2 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 5 | 81 |
Sakho won more tackles than Skrtel or Toure combined, and neither managed to better his two interceptions.
Skrtel did manage to win more aerial duels, but did not manage to win a single tackle.
The match was Sakho’s first Premier League start since September, and Liverpool looked a better side with him in there rather than Dejan Lovren.
The Frenchman also impressed after coming on as a substitute against Bournemouth in midweek, and Liverpool will hope his return will lead to a defensive improvement as a whole, with the Reds struggling badly so far this season.
