The Leeds United youngster is developing a habit of coming off the bench and scoring with little time to play his way into the game.

Leeds United striker Mallik Wilks is an undeniable talent, but even Whites fans may have been surprised at just how good he has been at loan club Accrington Stanley given his lack of starts thus far.

What is perhaps most impressive about the 18-year-old’s return of two goals in five League Two appearances is the fact that he has started every game on the bench, scoring just nine minutes into his debut and again with only 12 minutes to work his magic at the weekend.

The phrase super sub is bandied about regularly in football, yet Wilks is certainly worth of the tag after his latest strike earned Accrington another victory, with the teenager finding the net just four minutes after coming on against Chesterfield.

After a 95th-minute equaliser against Notts County earlier this season, it is clear the Leeds youngster needs little time to play his way into a match, simply getting into the right place at the right time and putting the finishing touch to a move.

It is surely only a matter of time before Wilks makes his first start for his loan club, although considering his impact off the bench that may be the best place for him for a while yet.

Leeds have some outstanding young players coming through the ranks and Wilks is fully justifying the hype. The next challenge is to score when he is not running at tired defences, making an impact for a full 90 minutes and hopefully adding plenty more goals to his tally in the process.
