Leeds United could give the 17-year-old a chance if he continues to impress for the second string.
Leeds United are renowned for giving youth a chance, with new manager Garry Monk already opting to give Ronaldo Vieira and Tyler Denton a place in his first-team setup.
But while young strikers Frank Mulhern, Eoghan Stokes and – to a lesser extent – Jack McKay were tipped to break through this season, could it instead be a 17-year-old who beats the lot of them to his senior debut?
Malik Wilks has been making waves in the Leeds academy for quite some time now, and he started as he will mean to go on this season when he scored for the Whites’ under-23s in a 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra last week.
For now Monk will be focused on getting the best out of his senior strikers Marcus Antonsson, Chris Wood and Kemar Roofe, but if Wilks continues to impress for the second string it may not be too long before his manager has a decision to make.
Some Leeds fans were calling for more chances for their young forwards at the back-end of last season, and if the more experienced players struggle at times this season, what harm would there be in giving a teenager his chance from the bench?
