Schalke defender Malick Thiaw has told Schalke TV that he is happy to be linked with Liverpool – but he isn’t looking to leave.

Liverpool are seemingly linked with a new centre back every other day, and it’s no great surprise given their defensive issues at the moment.

Virgil van Dijk is out for the season, Joe Gomez now looks set to miss the majority of the campaign, and Dejan Lovren wasn’t replaced over the summer.

Jurgen Klopp is left with few centre back options now, and many want the Reds to move for a new signing in the January transfer window.

A host of players have been linked, and Schalke talent Malick Thiaw is a name on the radar according to a recent report from Sport Bild.

The Mirror claimed earlier this year that Thiaw is a Liverpool target, and scouts have allegedly maintained an interest in the 19-year-old.

The 19-year-old has shown promise at Schalke, but has played just seven games so far, so asking him to solve Liverpool’s defensive issues may be a big step.

Now, Thiaw has suggested that he is happy that a big club like Liverpool want him, but he wants to stay at Schalke – meaning a January move may not happen after all.

“Of course you’re happy when big clubs are after you, but it was actually clear to me that I would stay at Schalke,” said Thiaw.
