The Bordeaux front man is now said to be likely to join Spurs in the summer, and Pochettino may just have played a very clever game in getting hold of the 20-year-old.

Spurs fans have expressed frustrations that they haven’t been able to sign Malcom this month, but if he joins in the summer it may actually benefit them more.
As things stand, the youngster can continue to gain plenty of first-team football with Bordeaux, which should aid his development, and he then will join Spurs are a more refined talent.
Malcom will also have the benefit of joining with pre-season ahead of him, if he moves to Spurs in the summer.

If Tottenham had signed the 20-year-old now, it would have been a big ask for him to adapt instantly to the English game, in the heart of the campaign.
Tottenham are battling for a Champions League place, so the pressure would have been on Malcom to make an immediate impact.
But by leaving the transfer for six months, Pochettino may just have played a very smart move, as a summer switch could be favourable for all parties.
