Rangers earned an excellent 3-0 win at Ibrox over Aberdeen.

Former Rangers ace Bob Malcolm has spoken of his delight on Twitter after his old side brushed aside Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen with a comfortable 3-0 win at Ibrox.

James Tavernier scored a marvellous brace from right-back, first stroking home a penalty before tapping in a Josh Windass cross while forgotten man Carlos Pena returned to shine and score his fifth goal of the season.

The Gers kept the likes of Kenny McLean, Stevie May and Graeme Shinnine quiet as they ran riot on the Dons, in what was a crucial match in terms of the Light Blues’ chances of remaining in touch with the Scottish Premiership’s top three.

Malcolm, 37, was overjoyed on Twitter following the match, stating the “Teddy Bears were a different class”. He also picked his man of the match in the shape of youngster Ross McCrorie, who was given a different role.

McCrorie, 19, was given the holding-midfield role at the base of a diamond in what was a slight change in tactics by interim boss Graeme Murty. It allowed the caretaker manager to keep McCrorie in the side, but hand a return to Bruno Alves.

It saw the Gers academy product shine, as he mopped up any danger in front of the back four and ultimately proved crucial in earning Rangers just their fourth league clean sheet of the season.

The Gers go up against Aberdeen for a second time in the space of five days as they travel to Pittodrie for the return fixture on Sunday, in what is likely to be a tough test as the Dons will want immediate revenge.
