Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club posted a six-second video of Roberto Firmino playing Europa League football.
The tweet in question showed footage of the Brazil international twisting Roberto Soldado in knots back in May 2016.
It was from Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final at Anfield, and supporters think the club posted it with one intention in mind.
What would that be?
Well, some fans feel the club have deliberately posted footage of Liverpool in Europa League action to prepare them for next season.
As things stand, Liverpool are seven points adrift of the top four, with only five Premier League games left of the campaign.
Unless a minor miracle happens, it seems as if Jürgen Klopp will be overseeing Europa League football at Anfield for the first time since his debut season at Liverpool.
That is rotten news, as it will presumably impact on Liverpool’s transfer plans this summer.
The Reds would’ve been a far more attractive proposition for new signings if they were able to offer Champions League football.
Now, they will either have to deliver an incredible persuasion job, or simply throw more money at their targets.
In our view, Europa League football isn’t the worst thing.
Klopp has shown that he knows how to reach the final of the competition, and it’s also one of few trophies he hasn’t actually won for Liverpool yet.
So, partaking in the Europa League could see Klopp win a new trophy for Liverpool, which would also automatically secure Champions League football for the 2022/23 season.
