Lee Hendrie has criticised Illan Meslier for ‘making a meal’ of Ezri Konsa getting sent off during Aston Villa’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United, as he told Soccer Special (09/02/22 at 9:45 pm).
The former Villa midfielder added that Konsa, who was shown a second yellow for swiping his arm across Meslier, deserved to be sent off.
After being booked earlier on in the second half, Konsa got himself in trouble again for an unnecessary incident off the ball.
It all stemmed from a Villa corner, which was caught by the Leeds stopper, before Konsa was sent off for the second time this season.
Ironically enough, Hendrie was the last Villa player to get sent off twice in a single league campaign and this is what he made of yesterday’s incident.
“Ezri Konsa, he’s already on a yellow card,” said Hendrie. “Meslier just comes to the edge of his box. He (Konsa) just comes across him and puts his arm up.
“It’s a blatant yellow card. Two yellows. You just can’t do that. Meslier is definitely making a meal of it – defensively just not good enough and that just sums them up defensively.”
For the third time running under Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds have rocked up to the West Midlands and put three goals past Villa.
There always seems to be drama and goalmouth incidents when it comes to this duo and it was no different last night.
Leeds will be kicking themselves for how they went from being 1-0 up to 3-1 down in a flash.
Whilst Villa will be equally annoyed that they didn’t hold onto a 3-1 lead in front of their own supporters.
