Aston Villa fans on Twitter are now hopeful that they can sign Ollie Watkins after Ivan Toney joined Brentford for a fee which could rise to £10 million, according to Sky Sports.
Transfer rumours have been circulating for some while now, but there hasn’t been any real action of note to excite the Villa Park faithful, but this just may be it.
Sky Sports did also claim that following Brentford’s deal to snap up yet another talented striker, it now may allow the much sought-after Watkins to depart.
Villa fans on social media are hoping that door has opened because they have been trying to find the keys to sign Watkins for a number of weeks now.
Watkins has worked with Dean Smith before, so the Midlands side have that advantage over their rivals in securing his signature for this summer.
Regardless of what has or hasn’t been said about Watkins between Villa and Brentford, this will now surely speed up matters.

The new Premier League season kicks off later on this month, with Villa not playing on the opening weekend because their fixture against Manchester City has been postponed.
This provides Villa with more chance to get Watkins signed up and ensure he gets some minutes under his belt in pre-season.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if there are more twist and turns to come, but this is how the Villa Park faithful reacted to Toney’s move to Griffin Park:
