Tottenham Hotspur fans feel that it says a lot that only a handful of players, including Heung-Min Son and Gareth Bale, walked back out on the pitch after their defeat last night.

Son and Bale were joined by Dele Alli, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane as they walked round the pitch to applause from Tottenham fans, but the rest of their teammates were nowhere to be seen.

Tottenham had just lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in what was a frustrating game, but their players’ failure to at least show some appreciation to the supporters who turned up has caused some annoyance.

And Tottenham fans have praised the likes of Bale and Son for at least showing that they care.

In truth the names of the Tottenham players who stayed behind to applaud the supporters come as no surprise.

It should also be noted that Hugo Lloris and Toby Alderweireld did at least come out and thank Tottenham fans after their team-talk in the dressing room.

If Spurs fans were asked to pick the players they would most like to stay next season, it is likely that the aforementioned names would all feature prominently.

Son may not have had his finest night for Tottenham last night, like many in their starting line-up, but few can doubt his desire or passion for the club.

Bale’s walk may have been his chance to say goodbye to supporters.

The Welshman’s future looks very uncertain beyond the end of this season, when his loan at Tottenham is due to expire.
