Don Hutchison has claimed that Aston Villa youngster Jacob Ramsey has ‘old school’ qualities to his game, as he told the Weekend Review on PL Productions (17/01/22 at 12:20 pm).
The former Liverpool and Everton midfielder thinks Ramsey is someone who ‘makes things happen’ and he isn’t interested in ‘keeping the ball’ or ‘pass completion’.
On Saturday, Aston Villa came from 2-0 down to record a 2-2 draw against Manchester United, with Ramsey involved in both goals.
It was his outstanding left-footed finish from inside the area that helped pull a goal back for Villa, before he laid the ball on a plate for Philippe Coutinho to score on his debut.
And Hutchison likes what he sees from the Villa 20-year-old, who has been at the club since the age of six.
“He makes things happen,” said Hutchison. “A lot of footballers these days are a little obsessed by keeping the ball. Pass completion.
“He is an old school midfield player. What is he, 20? Every time he gets into the box, he takes a shot on. He has got the vision to find an assist. He makes runs.
“Not every pass is perfect. But you can never underestimate a player that makes things happen.”

That’s three Premier League goals for Ramsey this season and that’s more than a certain Jack Grealish who was sold for £100 million in the summer.
From making his debut at 17 in the Championship against West Brom when things weren’t go well for Villa.
To now being a regular member of the Villa side, the forward-thinking midfielder has made huge strides in his game.
Someone like Dean Smith deserves huge credit for allowing him to train with the first team at a very young, before thrusting him into the limelight.
And now he is working under the stewardship of the legendary midfielder Steven Gerrard, these are exciting times for someone like Ramsey and, at this moment in time, he is taking it with both hands.
