Former RB Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick believes Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi could be going down a ‘similar’ transfer path as Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon on deadline day.

The German told Deadline Day on Sky Sports (05/10/20 at 11:35 am) that Guendouzi’s rumoured move to Hertha Berlin ‘makes sense’ just like Sessegnon’s decision to move to Hoffenheim.

It seems as though Guendouzi is on the verge of leaving Arsenal and moving to Germany, according to the Daily Mirror after he was frozen out by manager Mikel Arteta.

If that deal is confirmed that the bustling midfielder won’t be the only player moving from North London to Germany because Sessegnon has already joined Hoffenheim on a temporary basis, as reported by Sky Sports.

Rangnick, who was also sporting director at Leipzig, compared the two deals and think they are both needed and it ‘makes sense’.

“As far as I know Matteo Guendouzi will be on his way to Hertha Berlin,” Rangnick told Sky Sports. “Maybe as a loan deal as well.

Biggest Premier League transfer deadline day deals in 2019

  1. Alex Iwobi

    Arsenal to Everton: £34 million

  2. Ismaila Sarr

    Rennes to Watford: £30 million

  3. Ryan Sessegnon

    Fulham to Tottenham: £25 million

  4. Kieran Tierney

    Celtic to Arsenal: £25 million

  5. Dennis Praet

    Sampdoria to Leicester: £18 million

“Again, he’s a fantastic player. He can play in both positions as a number six or as a number eight. He would perfectly fit into the new set-up at Hertha Berlin under Bruno Labbadia.

“If this deal goes through today then it would be similar to the move of Ryan Sessegnon, who has gone to Hoffenheim. A deal that makes sense for all parties involved.”

For both players, this is a much-needed move because they need those minutes in their legs.

Sessegnon simply cannot break into Tottenham’s strong forward line and injuries haven’t allowed him to settle in at Tottenham since his move last summer.

As for Guendouzi, he has been on the sidelines ever since his actions during his side’s defeat at Brighton after lockdown and, for the sake of his future, he just needs to get back playing.
