‘Makes sense’: Michael Owen makes West Ham United and Everton transfer claim

Michael Owen says it ‘makes sense’ that West Ham United signed Danny Ings from Aston Villa, including beating Everton to his transfer.

The former England striker stated that both Everton and West Ham United are ‘desperate for goals’, and whilst David Moyes has sorted that out, it’s a heap of a mess for those on Merseyside.

It’s even worse that Frank Lampard has now been sacked following his side’s 2-0 defeat at the London Stadium, which included Ings coming off the bench.

Given Ings’ Liverpool past, it would have been a surprise if the 30-year-old moved to the other side of Merseyside, added to that, the Hammers are paying £15 million for the experienced striker, and it’s not like Everton have money to splash. 

Either way, this capture, come the end of the season, could prove to be a defining for both sides.

Well, whatever happens, Michael Owen doesn’t think West Ham will be heading to the Championship next season given the quality of players they have on show, as he told Premier League Productions.

“Both teams desperate for goals,” said Owen. “Both teams want a proven goalscorer in the Premier League. 

“It makes sense, doesn’t it?! I understand why Ings has gone to West Ham. It’s a good move for him actually. You think he is going to get a lot more game time there. It’s a good club.

“You would think West Ham aren’t going to go down this season. They are too good to go down – I think it’s a good move for him.”

EVERTON’S TROUBLES

There is still a long way to go, but the likes of West Ham, Leeds, Everton, Southampton, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Wolves know that they are in a relegation fight.

Come the final few weeks of the season, they don’t want to be deep in that fight, or else, they might not have the stomach to deal with it.

But the goings-on at Goodison Park, the unrest with the board, and yet another manager to be appointed, are very helpful to those around them because it just seems like it’s all doom and gloom for the Toffees.
