Ally McCoist has backed Fleetwood manager Scott Brown to join Brendan Rodgers if he makes a stunning return to Celtic.

Not many would have expected it, but calls are growing strong that Brendan Rodgers will make a sensational return to Celtic, four years after his controversial exit to Leicester City, it has been claimed that Leeds United are trying to hijack such a move.

McCoist backed the Northern Irishman to return to old colours and he thinks it ‘makes sense’ if Scott Brown is his number two, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (13/06/23 at 6:30 am).

The 37-year-old, since hanging up his boots at Aberdeen in 2022, has been Fleetwood’s manager and he finished 13th with a team that has one of the smallest budgets in League One.

Since the turn of the century, there hasn’t been a player who has been as iconic or influential as Brown at Celtic, and now he could be standing in the dugout ready to write another legendary chapter.

Nonetheless, McCoist previously expressed his ‘surprise’ at Rodgers making a possible return, as he also shared his thoughts on Brown.

“What we heard was Brendan going back and probably taking Scott Brown as his number two,” said McCoist. “He is at Fleetwood. He has been doing his managerial stuff at Fleetwood.

“I mean that would make sense. But it’s a big decision he (Rodgers) has to make (about being Celtic’s next manager).”

Big call from Rodgers and Celtic

It can’t be denied, there will still be some ill feeling and anger from the Celtic fans at Rodgers’ call to leave midway through the season.

Some still haven’t forgiven him, some never will, that’s why it’s crucial he gets off to a strong start.

If things start in an uneasy manner then you can bet your bottom dollar that the Parkhead faithful will turn a lot quicker than if it was somebody else in the dugout.
