Tim Vickery stated on Twitter that it ‘made no sense’ asking Tottenham forward Son Heung-min to track back Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey during South Korea’s 3-2 defeat to Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The South American football expert added that Son ‘didn’t do it well’, as the struggling Spurs star suffered another game to forget.
In the Premier League, the 30-year-old, after winning the 2021/22 Golden Boot, has only scored in one game this season and that was his stunning hat-trick from the bench against Leicester City.

But, for large parts, including in the Champions League and now at the World Cup, he has looked scruffy in his play, hesitant in the final third and lacking that clinical edge.
That’s probably what Spurs fans don’t want to hear because there would have been hope that he can rediscover his form for his nation and then bring it back to the domestic stage, as Vickery was left baffled by how he was used yesterday.
ONE LAST CHANCE FOR SON
Like many of the games and groups at the World Cup, they are all going down to the last few set of fixtures and South Korea are no different.
Their issue is that they need other results to go their way because if they beat Portugal, they will then rely upon goal difference to progress one way or another.
It will be a possible last chance for Son to impress and write his name into the history books by scoring at this year’s World Cup, because if he turns it on, then it could be game-changing for his team and his confidence.
