Ahmed Elmohamady has taken to Twitter to react after Lucas Digne completed his £25m move to Aston Villa from Everton.

What’s the story?

Well, the 43-cap France international has swapped one Premier League side for another after falling out with Rafa Benitez at Goodison Park.

Digne has signed a four-and-a-half year contract with Aston Villa, and has also inherited Elmohamady’s No.27 shirt at Villa Park.

After hearing the news, the Egyptian – a cult hero at Aston Villa – hopped online to send a clear instruction to Steven Gerrard’s latest signing.

You can see the 34-year-old’s tweet in full below.

Elmohamady last wore the No.27 shirt on May 16th 2021, in a 3-2 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last term.

In total, he made 129 appearances for the Villans, scoring four goals while also providing 17 assists.

Lucas Digne adds new dimension to Aston Villa

As good as Matt Targett is, Digne is far more dangerous going forward, so he should be able to add another dimension to Aston Villa.

In fact, the Villans arguably have one of the best backlines in the entire Premier League now, after signing the former Barcelona defender.

With Digne and Matty Cash either side of Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa, Gerrard has a formidable defence, strengthened even further by Emiliano Martinez’s presence behind them.

It was already a well-drilled backline. Only Manchester City and Chelsea kept more clean sheets than Aston Villa’s 15 shutouts in the Premier League last season.

Now, it could be about to get even better for the Villans.
