Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has praised Liverpool’s departing sporting director Michael Edwards on BT Sports (6:48pm, May 28, 2022) for his role in the Anfield club’s recent success.
Gerrard, a Liverpool legend, has said that fans of the Merseyside club love and adore Edwards for what he has done.
The Villa boss has added that people outside Liverpool do not understand how vital Edwards has been to Liverpool’s recent success.
Edwards is leaving Liverpool as the Premier League club’s sporting director this summer, with Julian Ward named his successor.
He first joined Liverpool back in November 2011, and was instrumental in signings players such as Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

Gerrard said about Edwards on BT Sports (6:48pm, May 28, 2022): “I don’t think that he has had enough credit outside of Liverpool, but obviously being in the city and spending a lot of time over the years around Michael, make no mistake, the Liverpool fans adore him and really appreciate the role that he has played.”
In our view, Michael Edwards has done a wonderful job at Liverpool as the sporting director.
Yes, we have to praise Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and the players for winning the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup in recent years, but the team in the background have done exceptionally well.
And Michael Edwards has been a big figure in the background.
