Jamie Redknapp said on Sky Sports Football (6:42pm, December 6, 2020) that he thinks that Gareth Bale is not too happy with his current situation at Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Tottenham midfielder, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, raved about Bale and predicted that the winger will score a couple of wonderful goals at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season.

Redknapp made the comments about the Wales international winger following Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the North London derby this past Sunday evening.

The 31-year-old winger, who returned to Spurs on loan from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020, was an unused substitute in the Premier League game.

Redknapp said about Bale on Sky Sports Football (6:42pm, December 6, 2020), as transcribed by Goal.com: “I’m almost undermining an incredible player, one of the best players I’ve ever seen live, Gareth Bale. The things he’s done for Real Madrid and for Tottenham. There was a spell when he was unplayable.

“Right now, Jose thinks he’s not the player he needs in this team. This team has to work to a man, and Gareth might just upset that balance and not quite do those hard yards if you like.

“That feels a bit unfair on him because he’s probably watching now thinking ‘how am I going to get in this team? If I am going to get in, the only way I can do it, is by working hard and showing in training that when I come on, I make an impact.’

“Make no mistake, Gareth Bale will have a role and he will score a couple of wonderful goals here before the end of the season, but I can’t imagine he’s too happy about sitting on the bench. I can’t imagine a player of his stature can be enjoying not being involved and not even coming on. We’ve all got egos as players.”

Valuable option for Jose Mourinho

Bale has not been able to make a huge impact at Spurs so far this season, but Tottenham are doing well without the Welshman playing regularly.

According to WhoScored, the Madrid-owned winger has scored one goal in three Premier League matches and has scored one goal in five Europa League games for Tottenham so far this season.

The 31-year-old is a very good player, and the winger’s importance will grow in the coming weeks and months. There is no doubt that Bale is a valuable option for Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho.
