Remove the penalty controversies and the reopening of Gareth Bale’s Tottenham Hotspur account and one of the main takeaways from Spurs’ win against Brighton & Hove Albion was the respective displays of two full-backs.

It was of course Sergio Reguilon who crossed for Bale to steal the headlines, while Tariq Lamptey scored for Brighton.

It was the latest impressive contribution made by the latter player since his January move from Chelsea, which is reported to have earned Tottenham’s London rivals a fee in the region of £3 million.

In 15 games for Brighton, Lamptey has been directly involved in five of the Seagulls’ goals, and it is little surprise to see him being touted for an England call up in the not too distant future.

But it is not just at international level where the 20 year old is said to be catching the eye, with several top European sides – notably Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid – already being credited with an interest.

And the following Tottenham fans feel that their club, too, should be in the running for Lamptey’s signature.

This is how they reacted to his latest performance on Twitter…

Tottenham did of course add to their options in Lamptey’s position as recently as August, when Matt Doherty arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth a reported £15 million.

Jose Mourinho also has Serge Aurier at his disposal.

But Aurier’s future is rumoured to have been uncertain for some time now and with little more than 18 months left on his contract, it is plausible the Ivorian could be sold in the next two windows.

Doherty, meanwhile, is no spring chicken, with his 29th birthday fast approaching.

And it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Tottenham already have younger options – like Lamptey – lined up behind the scenes.

With two and a half years to run on Lamptey’s deal, the ball is certainly in Brighton’s court should the interest in the England Under-21 international develop into anything more serious – although relegation from the Premier League could soon change that.

It remains to be seen ow much the Seagulls would ask for Lamptey.

But the south coast club are said to want £50 million for another defender Ben White, who has made less of an impression, arguably, than his teammate.

Lamptey signed for Chelsea as an eight year old and would have been rising through the ranks while Mourinho was in his second spell at Stamford Bridge, between 2013 and 2015.

Tottenham fans – is Lamptey a good addition for Spurs?
