Rangers youngster Billy Gilmour is reportedly set to join Chelsea.
Rangers’ Emerson Hyndman in action with Celtic’s Scott Brown
According to a report from the The Scotsman, Rangers teenager Billy Gilmour is set to join Chelsea after the two clubs agreed a £600,000 fee.
Gilmour, 15, has been coming up through the ranks with Rangers, and has earned plaudits this season for his performances both for the Gers youth setup and with Scotland.
The midfielder has unsurprisingly attracted great interest having already trained with the Rangers first team, and he appears to be nearing a move to England.
The Scotsman claim that Rangers have agreed to sell Gilmour to Chelsea for £600,000, and whilst that deal may involve some add-ons, it does provide the Gers with a welcome cash boost ahead of the summer transfer window.
With that in mind, here are three ways Rangers could look to spend the Gilmour money this summer…
Make a move for Emerson Hyndman
Bournemouth loanee Hyndman has impressed since joining Rangers in January, and new manager Pedro Caixinha should be keen to keep the American at Ibrox. The 20-year-old had made just three appearances for Bournemouth following a £750,000 summer move from Fulham (Bournemouth Echo), and Rangers should test the Cherries’ resolve with a permanent move for him. Offering Eddie Howe’s men the same fee they paid less than a year ago is one idea, or potentially going up to £1million in a bid to keep the impressive midfielder in Glasgow for the foreseeable future.

Renew contracts
Rangers have two contracts to sort out this summer, with both Clint Hill and Kenny Miller’s deals expiring, and more are scheduled to leave in 2018. Danny Wilson, Rob Kiernan, Barrie McKay and Martyn Waghorn will all become free agents in just over a year, and Rangers should either use their money to extend their deals, or take the chance to move on players who aren’t in line for contracts. It’s not a sexy way to spend money, but it would give Rangers a sense of stability moving forward.
Back Caixinha with his own men
New manager Caixinha arrives with an extensive knowledge of Portuguese, Mexican and Qatari football thanks to recent managerial jobs, and he may well be hoping to use the experience when approaching the transfer market this summer. Caixinha could put the expected Gilmour money towards bringing in players he has worked with before, with ex-Rangers winger Vladimir Weiss no doubt top of the wish list for supporters.
