Could Tottenham Hotspur lose Dele Alli in the January transfer window?
Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, January 7, 2016) that Tottenham Hotspur could lose Dele Alli.
Alli is one of the best young players in the Premier League and is a key figure in the current Tottenham team.
According to a recent report in The Mirror, Spanish giants Madrid and Barcelona are interested in signing Alli from Tottenham.
Given the current transfer ban on Madrid, Zinedine Zidane’s side would not be able to bring in any players in the January transfer window, but what if they make an offer in the summer? Would Spurs be able to resist a big offer?
Merson does not think so and said on Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, January 7, 2016): “Tottenham are building a new stadium, so you have got to take that into consideration. I think if Real Madrid come in with £60m or £70m, I would be majorly shocked if Tottenham turn that down, I really would.”
Tottenham have sold some of their best players over the years, such as Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.
An offer of £60 million or £70m could be hugely tempting for Spurs, who are building a new stadium and could do with that money.
The North London club’s fans, though, will not be happy, as in Alli they have a potential world-class midfielder.
The 20-year-old seems to be enjoying his football at Spurs at the moment and does not appear to be angling for a move.
