Are Liverpool and Everton set to do battle for the Leicester City striker?

Confirmation that Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban has been upheld has seen Liverpool and Everton overtake the Spanish giants as Sky Bet‘s front-runners to sign Jamie Vardy.

Atletico were favourites for the Leicester City striker’s signature, but are now out of the running entirely leading to odds on both Merseyside clubs being cut.

However, at 6/1 [Liverpool] and 8/1 [Everton], it would appear that no move for Vardy is imminent from either club.

Although having said that, neither have been formally linked with the 30-year-old in recent months, which makes their presence somewhat intriguing.

Liverpool have already agreed to sign Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke ahead of next season, but could be in the market for another front man if, as has been speculated, Daniel Sturridge departs.

Everton, on the other hand, are thought to want to add to their attack regardless of whether they lose top scorer Romelu Lukaku.

The Toffees’ director of football Steve Walsh helped to identify Vardy as a Leicester target ahead of the England international’s 2012 transfer from Fleetwood Town.

Vardy, who helped Leicester to the Premier League title in 2015-16, scored 16 goals at club level this past campaign – including two in the Champions League.
