The Englishman’s controversial 14-year reign as Magpies owner came to an end yesterday.
The Premier League confirmed that Saudi Public Investment Fund had successfully taken over the St James’s Park.
Outside the ground, there were mass celebrations and it’s difficult to tell whether it was about the arrival of new mega-rich owners or the end of Ashley’s reign.
In the end, perhaps a combination of both and whatever way you look at it, this could well be the start of a glorious new era at Newcastle.
Joe Willock is the second-most expensive signing that Ashley ever sanctioned in the North East following a £25 million move from Arsenal this past summer [Transfermarkt].

The Magpies’ support has really taken to Willock and it isn’t only because of his rip-roaring and goal-laden loan spell under Steve Bruce during the second half of last season.
It’s also because the Arsenal product genuinely gets it and has bought into everything regarding the culture of the club.
