Paul Merson has praised Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles on Sky Sports News (5:31pm, September 18, 2021) for his performance against Burnley on Saturday.

Maitland-Niles was in action for Arsenal in their Premier League game against Burnley away from home at Turf Moor.

The 24-year-old midfielder did not start the match, but the England international, who can also play as a full-back, came on as a substitute for Thomas Partey on 75 minutes.

Mikel Arteta’s side won 1-0.

Former Arsenal star Merson has praised Maitland-Niles for his performance against Burnley as a substitute, and has said that he did “very well”.

Merson said on Sky Sports News (5:31pm, September 18, 2021): “He (Thomas Partey) did alright, he got subbed in the end. Maitland-Niles came on, who I thought was did really well when he came on, very well.”

How did Ainsley Maitland-Niles play?

Partey is one of the best players at Arsenal and is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the team.

It is not easy for anyone to come in for the Ghana international, even as a substitute, but we have to say that Maitland-Niles did well.

The 24-year-old was calm and composed in the game and was able to immediately do the job he was supposed to.

The Englishman had a pass accuracy of 73.3%, took 21 touches, and made two tackles and one interception.

Maitland-Niles could be an important player for Arsenal in the coming weeks and months.
