Tim Sherwood has dismissed the possibility of Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur signing Cristiano Ronaldo after he left Manchester United by mutual consent on Tuesday night.

There may well be a FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but Ronaldo has still managed to take many of the headlines in recent weeks given his recent tell-all interview with Piers Morgan about his issues at Manchester United.

Well, that interview was only going to go down one road… and that’s the five-time Ballon d’Or winner becoming a free agent, as Man United broke that news last night.

The 37-year-old is the only man at the FIFA World Cup without a club now, as he will focus on trying to end his World Cup bow with Portugal by adding the greatest footballing trophy on earth to his name.

When Sherwood was asked whether Tottenham would take the highly-demanding player on board, he issued a pretty clear response, as he told Stadium Astro.

“Depending on what I had,” said Sherwood. “With the current squad? No, no. He wouldn’t play. Where would he play?

“You are going to play Harry Kane. You are going to play Kulusevski. You are going to play Son. He wouldn’t play.

“Your problem then is when he doesn’t play. He’s not going to roll his sleeve up and prove to the manager that he can. He doesn’t want to play bit-part. He wants to be the main man. He has been the main man during his career.”

RONALDO AND SPURS DON’T MATCH

From Tottenham’s style of play, to how chairman Daniel Levy runs the club from a financial perspective and much game time they could give him, it’s a no-no across the board.

No team perhaps needs Harry Kane to play the way he does more than Tottenham and Ronaldo is the opposite of the England captain.

Plus, you’re not going to bench a player on 12 Premier League goals from 15 games this season.

Whatever Ronaldo’s next play will be, it has to be to a club he can help elevate in every sense, but also provide him with regular starts, regardless of their situation.
