Former Hibernian ace Tam McManus is not surprised to see the ‘magnificent’ Josh Doig being linked with a summer move to Arsenal and Leeds United, as he told the Daily Record.
If you were wondering what all the fuss was about, just look at the way this 18-year-old left-back dismantled Hamilton almost single handedly last weekend.
Not only did Doig score his first senior goal against the Accies, he also set up the other in a 2-0 win which perhaps rubber-stamped his reputation as the most exciting teenage talent in Scotland.
Doig’s potential is not going unnoticed south of the border either.
According to Goal, the Scotland U18 international is a target for Leeds and Celtic. Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, could be about to go up against his old mentor Pep Guardiola with Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester City also keen on the highly-rated wide man.
“The display of young Josh Doig was magnificent,” said McManus, who wore the green shirt with pride from 1997 to 2005.

“Hibs as a club have had plenty of midfield and strikers of note who’ve gone on to bigger and better things but rarely has that been the case with a defender.
“Josh can buck that trend.”
Goal suggested in January that it would take a bid of around £1 million to secure Doig’s signature. But, with the youngster expected to sign a new contract at Easter Road, all the signs suggest that the Premiership’s breakthrough star is going nowhere just yet.
Doig is one of the first names on the team sheet for a Hibernian side who may be playing in Europe next season.
Why would he swap that for U23 football in England?
