As we head into the first international break of the season, Europe’s top five leagues are beginning to take shape, and we’re starting to see who the winners and losers of the season so far are.

Arsenal, Udinese and Real Betis have been amongst the surprise packages this season, while Liverpool, Sevilla and Bayer Leverkusen are amongst the teams who need to buck up their ideas if they’re to achieve what they want to this season.

However, while the aforementioned teams have been underperforming, the biggest losers in Europe so far have undoubtedly been Sampdoria.

A team with a rich history of being in and around European competition, the Genoa-based outfit are rooted to the bottom of Serie A at the moment, and, to be honest, some players will be wishing that they weren’t at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium at the moment.

Amongst those players may be Omar Colley.

The Gambian defender has been desperate to get out of Sampdoria for quite some time now. He changed his agent earlier this year in order to get a move to the Premier League, while moves to Fulham and West Brom have falled through in the past.

However, Leeds United have been the most interested club in the ‘magnificent’ defender in recent months, and Colley must be wishing that a deal to bring him to Elland Road had gone through.

Indeed, he’s having a torrid time over in Italy, and a relegation battle with Sampdoria looks like a distinct possibility, while Leeds are seemingly going from strength to strength under Jesse Marsch.

Colley is clearly a player Victor Orta has been an admirer of, and if things don’t improve at Sampdoria soon, the defender could be on the market once again – only this time for a cut-price fee.

Colley may well be a player worth keeping an eye on if Sampdoria’s form doesn’t improve.
