Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Arsenal and their new signing Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Japan international joined the Gunners on deadline day, and he was put straight into the XI by Mikel Arteta after the international break ended.

The former Bologna man has started at right-back in both of his games so far, and he’s taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.

Wright has been mightily impressed by what he’s seen from Tomiyasu so far, and he says that the Gunners have made a brilliant signing here.

What’s been said?

Wright was waxing-lyrical about Tomiyasu.

“Tomiyasu, I don’t think anyone has gone past him. He’s a very shrewd signing. He’s been magnificent. Of course, in the two games we’ve played are two games you’d expect us to play well and win in, and we have.

Bright start

Tomiyasu has certainly had a bright start to his life at Arsenal.

The defender has kept two clean sheets in two Premier League appearances, and as Wright says, we can’t recall any instance of a player going past him.

Of course, we must caveat this by saying that he’s only faced Burnley and Norwich thus far, and things will undoubtedly get tougher from here on in, but it’s hard to have a bad word to say about Tomiyasu thus far.

Edu may get a lot of flak for his transfer activity at Arsenal, but it looks as though he’s done a brilliant bit of business here in signing Tomiyasu.
