Rangers have picked up a first Premiership win under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
The Gers won 3-1 away to Livingston this afternoon.
Scott Arfield opened the scoring for Rangers in style with a wonderful finish after only eight minutes.
And Brian Rice has described the 33-year-old midfielder as ‘magnificent’ today.
He told BBC Sport Scotland: “Magnificent from Arfield, Rangers need his running from midfield.
“And, once you find him, he still needs a fantastic touch and lobbed finish, but he does that. Arfield is the only one in the Rangers midfield that gives you that.”
Statement
This was a big statement by Arfield, who earns £17,000 per week in Glasgow.
Toward the end of Steven Gerrard’s reign at Ibrox, the former Burnley midfielder had been used sparingly.
For instance, this was only Arfield’s second league start for Rangers since March of this year, illustrating that Gerrard had been preferring other options at the time.
But as Rice said, Arfield offers the light Blues something that other midfielders don’t – goals.
He has always been a prolific goalscorer for the Scottish Premiership leaders and Van Bronckhorst is clearly a fan of his work.
