Glasgow Rangers moved themselves up to second in the Scottish Premiership as the Ibrox side won 2-1 on Sunday.

St Mirren Manager Alex Rae looks on during the Scottish Championship match between Rangers and St. Mirren at Ibrox Stadium on February 27, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has taken to Twitter to comment on the Gers’ impressive win away at Aberdeen on Sunday that sees Graeme Murty’s men move up to second in the Scottish Premiership.

The Light Blues went into their back to back games with the Dons off the back of two defeats, so the Ibrox faithful would have been forgiven for worrying that Derek McInnes’ side would compound their misery.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

However, the Gers won the first match 3-0 on Wednesday and would have taken plenty of confidence with them to Pittodrie that they could make it six points out of six for the two games.

And it proved to be another win for Rangers, with goals from Danny Wilson and Josh Windass helping the side to a 2-1 win that said a lot about the belief and spirit within the team as they played most of the second-half with 10 men with Ryan Jack being sent off for the visitors.

And after the game, Rae took to social media to laud Murty’s men for the victory and the manner of the win.

The performances last week will give Murty or whoever is in charge for the next game a huge amount of confidence that the side have really turned a corner and may now be able to start establishing themselves as Celtic’s nearest rivals in the top flight.

There is a long way to go, and the Gers still need to prove that they can break teams down when they are the overwhelming favourites, but there are certainly a number of signs that suggest that the future could be much brighter at Ibrox than it had appeared it may be a couple of months ago.
