Liverpool are seemingly on the brink of signing a ‘magician’.

Speculation is rife that Thiago Alcantara will put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Anfield.

According to The Mirror, the outright deal is £20 million – before bonus and add-ons – but Liverpool are only paying a one-fifth of that figure now and the remainder to be spread across his time on Merseyside.

The 29-year-old effectively confirmed the news himself on Twitter with a farewell message to Bayern Munich today.

And Robert Lewandowski, who scored 55 goals for the Bavarians last season, responded. Here’s what the Polish hitman sent:

Liverpool are lucky that this deal is materialising, because failing to sign Thiago would’ve infuriated the fanbase.

The Reds’ faithful have already seen their club fail to sign one long-term target this summer after Timo Werner joined Chelsea.

And refusing to stump up the money for Thiago – who has been tentatively linked with a move to Old Trafford, too – would’ve been received very, very badly.

Sky Sports News filmed the Spain international arriving at Melwood earlier this afternoon, though, so this one looks set to be announced imminently.

Liverpool won’t have their ‘magician’ available for Sunday’s trip to Chelsea, but they can look forward to his dazzling skills and penetrative passing for the rest of the campaign.
