The World Cup finished on Sunday, but there was still one last score to settle from Qatar this week.
Indeed, while Lionel Messi, Enzo Fernandez, Kylian Mbappe and Emi Martinez all picked up their respective awards after the final, there was one award that was yet to be decided at that point.
The Goal of the Tournament award still hadn’t been decided.
To be honest, this wasn’t a World Cup of great goals. It’s hard to rememeber a single knockout game that was decided by a moment of brilliance, while other great strikes such as Vincent Aboubakar’s were almost ruined by VAR.
However, there were a few great efforts in Qatar, and according to the vote, the best of the bunch was Richarlison’s overhead kick against Serbia.

The Spurs star won the Goal of the Tournament award after a fan vote, and it’s fair to say that he deserves it.
“Richarlison creates magic, setting himself up for an unsavable overhead bicycle kick into the bottom corner,” FIFA wrote when describing the goal on their website.
This was a true Brazilian goal. Richarlison acrobatically finished off his chance, and he showed a level of flair that we have grown to associate with this part of the world for years now.
Not only was this the Goal of the Tournament, this may well be the best goal of Richarlison’s career to date.
Sadly, the attacker won’t be able to pick up where he left off in Qatar with Tottenham as he’s carrying a hamstring injury that will see him sidelined for up to six weeks, but upon his return, he’ll be hoping to hit the ground running and get back to scoring goals.
