Barcelona could solve their attacking woes by signing reported Arsenal target Darwin Nunez from Benfica, the president of his former club Almeria said in quotes reported by Sport.

It seems a little strange to suggest that two clubs who can count on the magisterial talents of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are struggling in the final third.

But that is the reality at the moment, with crisis-hit Barca enduring their worst start to a La Liga season in 32 years.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal can do a bit better than that. With just 13 points and ten goals from 11 Premier League matches, the Gunners have not begun a campaign this poorly since 1981/82 – 39 years ago.

Signing one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe would certainly help turn the ship around, of course, with FourFourTwo suggesting that Arsenal are showing an interest in a £22 million Uruguayan who was turned down by bitter rivals Tottenham over the summer (Mail).

According to Almeria president Turki Al-Sheikh, however, Barcelona could do a lot worse than take a punt on Nunez; the so-called new Edinson Cavani who shot to fame during a stunning season with the second-tier outfit.

“This player [Darwin] had a connection with me and I have fatherly feelings towards him,” Al-Sheikh said.

“He was one of my discoveries and I think he is a ‘magic remedy’ for Barcelona’s attack, they should take this into account.”

In 14 matches, Nunez has produced 12 goals and assists combined since becoming Benfica’s record signing.

The tenacious South American, who was also linked with Brighton and Southampton earlier in 2020, is guaranteed to become a ‘world class’ footballer and will one day exceed the £113 million Joao Felix to become the most expensive export in Benfica’s history.

Well, according to Benfica coach Jorge Jesus anyway (Goal).
