Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul is reportedly set to leave the La Liga side in January, with Juventus the early favourites to sign the Argentine international despite interest from the likes of Tottenham.

According to CalcioMercato, the former Udinese superstar has completely fallen out with Atletico manager Diego Simeone as is disinterested in the club’s long-term project, with the Spanish giants now eager to offload the midfielder in the January window, with Juventus keen to sign De Paul.

TuttoMercatoWeb reported in the summer that Tottenham were keen on the midfielder and even made a bid for the Atletico star. However, this offer was rejected by Los Rojiblancos, who seemingly value the 28-year-old at around £30m, a deal that could be quite the steal for many top clubs.

De Paul is expected to be part of Argentina’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad heading to Qatar, and the midfielder could see his stock rise considerably should the Atletico outcast impress in the Middle East with the South American hopefuls.

Indeed, De Paul would be quite the addition for any club in January, and whilst Tottenham made an offer for the Argentine in the summer, Juventus’ eagerness to sign the midfielder could result in the Old Lady winning the race to sign the Atletico star, much to the dismay of Spurs.

After all, losing out on a top player like De Paul to a European rival in Juventus will sting for Antonio Conte, who is in need of a quality midfielder to add to his ranks if the Italian manager is to push Tottenham in both the Premier League title race and the quest to finally win silverware.

De Paul’s time at Atletico looks set to end in the coming months, and for Tottenham, they have to ensure they win the race to sign the La Liga superstar with Juventus hovering over the midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

Midfield is a key position for Tottenham to strengthen in January, and whilst De Paul could be an expensive recruit, there’s no denying that the 28-year-old has the quality to take Conte’s squad to the next level, as well as deny a side like Juventus from snapping up the Atleti player.
