One of the biggest mistakes Tottenham Hotspur have made in recent years was not fighting harder to keep Noni Madueke.

The Hotspur Way gem quit Spurs at the age of 16 to pursue senior football, ultimately joining PSV Eindhoven.

Fast forward three years, the 19-year-old is now one of Europe’s most exciting young attacking talents and a big-money transfer to an elite club looks a certainty at some stage.

There’s no doubt Tottenham regret not being able to keep Madueke in North London.

But lightning could be about to strike twice for the Lilywhites.

Another Madueke?

According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham are selling Dilan Markanday to Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers this month.

Sky Sports have reported that Spurs have offered him a new contract, with his existing one expiring this summer, but that the player is desperate for senior football, like Madueke.

If he goes and becomes a star at some point in the future, the 20-year-old, the second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League 2 this season, will haunt Tottenham.

And they can’t defend the sale on the basis that they offered him a new contract, deflectitng attention on to the player’s desire to quit because honestly, Markanday, arguably their most exciting academy prospect, should’ve been signed up to a long-term extension years ago.

It appears as if Spurs’ show of commitment has come far too late and the fact he could leave for as little as £500,000, with no reported buy-back clause, well this will upset a lot of Lilywhites supporters, just like Madueke’s performances do now.
