Gary Neville couldn’t believe it when Sky Sports’ camera flicked to Dele Alli in the final minutes of Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Aston Villa last night.
Alli was reduced to a watching brief for Spurs again yesterday, and the cold evening at Villa Park seemed to have got the better of him by the end of the game.
Alli was spotted sitting with Joe Hart’s goalkeeper gloves on to warm his hands up.
Crucially though, the Spurs attacking midfielder didn’t have anything covering his feet.
And Neville couldn’t help but laugh at the England international.
He said: “I’ve noticed that madness of having gloves on and having flip flops on your feet. I mean surely that defeats the object!”
Neville was clearly in a jovial mood, as Tottenham closed in on victory, as briefly after he went on to poke some fun at Hart.
Hart’s social media team made an ill-advised post on his Instagram account after Tottenham’s Europa League exit in midweek.
And when it was put to Neville to the goalkeeper could actually write ‘job done’ after last night’s game, Neville responded: “Well his social media team can… if they’re still in work.”
Tottenham scored their goals against Villa through Carlos Vinicius and Harry Kane, as they picked up what could be an important three points in their hopes of delivering Champions League football next term.
