The Turkish international has been linked with a move back to England.
According to reports in Turkey, Everton are one of the latest teams to be interested in a move for Turkish international midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup. The Besiktas star, formerly of Arsenal, is said to be a target for Everton in the January transfer window – according to Haberler. Recently, he was valued at around £10 million as The Sun reported Arsenal readying a move to bring him back to North London.
The 25-year-old is an exceptional talent and Everton would be right to make a move for him, if they did not already have a gluttony of players in his position.
Ozyakup is an attacking central midfielder. He plays his best football in the middle of the park but in the attacking third. Sound familiar? He certainly seems to have the attributes of three summer signings – Gylfi Sigurdsson, Davy Klaasen and Wayne Rooney – as well as youngster Tom Davies. Not to mention the currently crocked talent that is Ross Barkley. All of these players Ronald Koeman and now David Unsworth have tried and failed to squeeze into a cognitive starting XI.
Everton would be mad to use their finances on creating yet another selection headache for whoever the next manager at the club is. Instead, they would be better off bringing in the star striker they need, some width n the midfield and even a new centre-back given the failing form of the ageing Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams. Another attacking midfielder? That would leave Everton fans familiarly irked.
