Michael Brown has praised Jack Harrison for his impact off the bench as Leeds United drew 2-2 with West Ham United. The substitute assisted Rodrigo for the Whites’ equalising goal.

Boss Jesse Marsch had dropped Harrison from his starting line-up for the Hammers’ visit to Elland Road on Wednesday night. But the American introduced the 26-year-old in the 63rd minute for Brenden Aaronson. It then took him just seven minutes to tee Rodrigo to score.

Harrison rode a challenge from Declan Rice on the edge of the West Ham box to thread his pass to Rodrigo. The Spaniard would then drill a low shot beyond Lukasz Fabianski to draw the Whites level at 2-2. Leeds had led earlier in the game after Wilfried Gnonto’s first goal.

Gnonto opened his Whites account in the 27th minute against West Ham. The 19-year-old joined Leeds from FC Zurich last September for £4m but had not managed to score during his six prior appearances. His maiden effort would also fail to see Leeds claim three points.

VAR Paul Tierney told referee David Coote to give West Ham a penalty in the first minute of first-half stoppage-time. He adjudged Pascal Struijk to have fouled Jarrod Bowen in the area. And Lucas Paqueta made no mistake from the spot to get the game level at half-time.

Aaronson then gifted West Ham possession straight away after the restart as Leeds fell a goal behind. Gianluca Scamacca punished his wayward pass from 25 yards out after only 45 second-half seconds. But Harrison and Rodrigo’s combination later secured their draw.

Harrison impressed Brown with his impact for Leeds against West Ham

Harrison’s impact from the bench impressed former Manchester City midfielder Brown as Leeds drew with West Ham on Wednesday. The winger fed Rodrigo for his first assist in 11 Premier League appearances. Harrison had not scored or assisted a strike since August 21.

“Jack Harrison has made the difference for Leeds,” Brown said on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra. “They’re going for it are Leeds United.”

Marsch had benched Harrison for West Ham’s visit to Leeds as he had failed to impress at Newcastle United on New Year’s Eve. The Tyneside clash often bypassed the £11m former Manchester City talent. He also made little impact when trying to help the Whites defend.
